Sometimes it is easier to talk about it, have cardboards with words “STOP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE” but it is harder to experience it and feel the aftermath pain / effect. Domestic Violence is real, its harsh reality lives comfortably among us regardless of race or colour. Domestic violence and abuse does not discriminate. It happens among heterosexual couples and in same-sex partnerships. It occurs within all age ranges, ethnic backgrounds, and economic levels. Abusers use fear, guilt, shame, and intimidation to wear you down. I decided that I could play a role to stop domestic violence, well create an awareness to the damages it creates. I took 7 images, each image drawing out what some of us and societies try to ignore. The purpose was to make these images serve as mirrors, mirrors to what happens behind closed doors, mirrors to the screaming and cries we hear at our neighbour’s houses, mirrors to the reality before the make up, mirrors to reality to the reality that surrounds us. Whether it’s coming from a man, a woman, a teenager, or an older adult. You deserve to feel valued, respected, and safe.
In reading this post, feel free to share the images. We all can play a role in creating the awareness.SAY NO TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
