Product Photography

The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.”
 ― Dorothea Lange

What gets you excited about a picture?, why does the picture of a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder get you hungry (I know you can picture it) Or a shower gel picture advert heighten you need to have a shower.

Photography (derived from the Greek phot- for “light” and -graphos for “drawing”) is the art, science, and practice of creating durable images by recording light, now try defining photography with “product included”. The idea behind product photography is bringing to life a product through an image.

Product Photography is often seen as an avenue for advertisements. This means without the use of people, the photographer is still able to communicate a powerful message using ONLY the product.

Good Product Photography = Good Advert Campaign. From Cîroc Vodka Bottle image or the Russian standard vodka or a Coca-Cola Bottle image to your favorite chocolate or your favorite sports car (Porshe).

Product Photography creates a visual doorway to the mind of the customer. Sometimes using a model or people is not enough.

Product Images  is everywhere around us, in catalogs, magazines, billboards. Some of them capture our attention and some we just flick through it very easily.

So what makes a good product photograph, I do not have a list but what is most important,  attention to detail.

Listen to the client, Be creative, DO NOT BE DEPENDENT on image adjustment softwares and be comfortable.

As a product photographer you need to work good with lights and a very steady tripod. Composition is key and be open to the use of props. It is fun trust me.
